Congratulations on stumbling on my site, or if you know me and I gave you the URL, G,day. My name is Rob and this website is about our plot of land and home in Doire Choil near Rossaveal and various other bits and bobs. I hope you enjoy surfing it.
The above picture is the view we have from our house over to the mountains in the West. It beggars belief that greedy developers are trying to build a wind farm with 140 meter turbines along the ridge in the middle ground of the photograph. As my opposition to the development I look after the website www.connemaraagainstwindfarms.com
We have almost six acres of land here about three acres are ponds and bog and I haven’t really attempted to tame any of that yet, the other 3 acres are woodland and lawns. Over the last couple of years I have been getting the garden back to its former glory as it was terribly overgrown when we bought the place. The photos in the slide shows are some of the flowering plants and bushes that were in bloom this year.
My wife Angie and I emigrated to Ireland three years ago after living in Australia for the preceding 20 years. I have a small website design business that I run from an office in my house and we have three dogs that just love the big garden.
I was a skipper of tug boats, and passenger cruise boats in Australia and before that we used to live on the island of Skye in Scotland and I was captain on small cargo ships around the UK and near continent, the smallest cargo ship I was skipper of was called the Eilean Eisdeal.Occasionally I will get the paint brushes out and like to dabble at art
There is also a bear called Charity that has been circumtrotting the world getting her photo taken who will be auctioned at some point with the proceeds going to charity. I also have a blog online at http://robertshairp.blogspot.ie/
Now you have met me feel free to drop in sometime if you are passing Connemara.
